John Snider, 94, of Lodi, passed away on March 13. He was born May 5, 1923 in Powers, Oregon to Otto George Snider and Stella Wicklund Snider. He spent most of his life in Modesto before moving to Lodi in 2004 to be nearer his children and their families.

His education at Oregon State University was cut short in 1943 when he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps. While serving as a flight instructor at Castle Air Force base in Merced, he met and married Louise Curtice on September 8, 1944, after which he flew a new C-46 aircraft from the United States to China transporti­ng gasoline and troops over the China/Burma/India route including flights over the famous “Burma Hump”.

After he returned from World War II, he eventually settled in Modesto and went to work for the Campbell Soup Company spending most of his career in the accounting department. He retired from Campbell’s in 1989 after working for the company for 35 years.

John was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Louise M. Snider. He is survived by his two children: John (Randy) Snider (wife Jodie), Stephen C. Snider (wife Judie), three grandchild­ren, Kerrie Kennedy (husband Patrick), Todd Snider (wife Rebecca) and Ashley Redenz (husband Will) and 5 greatgrand­children, Sean, Sterling, Kash, Liam, and Everley.

Gratitude to the very special people who provided care and companions­hip for John in his later days including Mike, Patience, Erin, Debbie and the Visiting Angels.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lodi Memorial Hospital Foundation or the Commemorat­ive Air Force (comemorati­veairforce.org) that maintains the “China Doll” C-46 aircraft in Camarillo, CA.

There will be a private burial followed by a celebratio­n of life Monday, March 19 at 3pm at the house of Stephen and Judie Snider, 2583 Ponderosa Dr., Lodi, CA.
