Late rally comes up short as Tokay falls

In a non-league game at Zupo Field on Monday night, the Tokay High baseball team scored five times in the bottom of the fifth inning. But Turlock scored earlier to knock off the Tigers 11-5.

Ralph Martinez had two RBIs for Tokay (2-4), which only had three hits. Ryan Lew had one of the Tigers’ hits. On the mound, Max Blevins and Victor Nateras tossed for Tokay. Frosh-soph

James Haynes had the lone hit for Tokay’s in Monday’s loss. Turlock had 11 hits and six walks. Freshmen

Billy Machado had three hits for Lodi in Monday’s non-league home game against the Wildcats. Hayden Hildenbran­d and Domenic Demski split time on the mound for the Flames.

Varsity

Opening Tri-City Athletic League action on the road on Monday, Tokay (0-1 in the TCAL, 5-2) were hitless. Weather permitting on Wednesday, Tokay will host Lincoln, which narrowly defeated Lodi 5-4 in their league opener that was also on Monday.

Frosh-soph

SOFTBALL

Sydney Feathersto­n and Olivia Robinson went 2-for-4 each for Lodi (0-1 in the TCAL), which had seven hits in Monday’s league opener. Feathersto­n had an RBI and Robinson two doubles.

Although Lodi had seven hits in the game, it was guilty of 10 errors.

Other hitters for Lodi, which finished with seven hits, were Caitlin Ahlbach, a double from Jocelyn Moya and base hit by Arianne Torres. Alexis Bindi scored one of the Flames’ runs, and Jocelyn Moya had a base hit.

TENNIS

Doubles dominated for Liberty Ranch inMonday’s Sierra Valley Conference match, winning five of the six matches. Winners in girls doubles were Alisa Cruz/Stephanie Salgado and Brien Luna/Kaitlyn Wendell. The boys’ winners were Mason Ginni/Michael Pryor and Hunter Franklin/Mason Smith. Liberty Ranch’s only win in singles was Brianna Muiruri.

CORRECTION Lodi High softball player, junior third baseman/first baseman Jazmine Patt, is a transfer from Lincoln High, who has been eligible to play for the Flames since the start of the season. Her family moved out of Lincoln’s boundaries and into the Lodi High boundaries.

Allysa Pinto will be playing first base and outfield, not shortstop, for the Flames this season. Allisa Yabumoto will be catching and playing shortstop. Sophomore Kiara Baker was on the Lodi High varsity softball team, but has been moved back to the Lodi frosh-soph team.
