Point the bear’s backside toward Capitol
Editor: I think the plan to refurbish the Lodi Arch is a great idea. The concept of utilizing volunteers and city staff to perform the work should be commended.
It is rumored that when the bear was initially placed on the arch it was intentionally positioned so the butt faced Sacramento. In 1956 my father and his brother (Hieb Bros.) restored the arch.
As part of the contract they were required to turn the bear around so its head pointed toward the Capitol.
When the arch is repaired or refurbished, I wish they would return the bear to its original position again so its rear faces the far-left liberal politicians in Sacramento. RICHARD HIEB Lodi
