Why not abolish the U.S. Constitution?

-

Editor: Retired Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens has publicly come out in favor of repealing the Second Amendment. This is noteworthy because few liberals (yes, I know he was listed as Republican, but in name only!) have stated this position, instead they have tried the “reasonable, common sense, sensible” routine.

Stevens dissented when the United States Supreme Court affirmed an individual’s right to keep and bear arms (Heller). Do you think we should go further than repealing the Second Amendment? How about repealing the First Amendment (I bet this paper wouldn't like that!) How about the Fourth and Fifth Amendments (look them up if you forgot what they are)?

If you repeal the Second Amendment, you will have to abolish other amendments if you are serious about getting rid of guns. California already tried to circumvent the Fourth Amendment when it passed a proposition outlawing “grandfathered” in high capacity magazines (a judge placed this on hold pending review). As Stevens stated, the Second Amendment may be “a relic of the 19th Century.” Maybe Stevens is correct, so if the Second Amendment is outdated what about just abolishing the entire United States Constitution? It would make it easier for the left to push their agendas. By the way, Stevens argued for legalizing abortion! Ban guns, but kill babies is the call of the day. KEN WINCHELL Lockeford
