Robert Wheeler deserves street named in his honor

-

Editor: About two years ago I contacted one of our council members to see what could be done to name a street for Robert Wheeler. With all the new construction of homes and subdivisions, I figured that should not take long to get an OK. Well, to this day I have not been either called or notified in any way.

Well, now with the new plans for the old General Mills property on the corner of Lower Sacramento Road and Turner Road, it should be a no-brainer to name a street after Robert Wheeler since it was his home for many years as our plant manager, and a good one I must say.

He was always there for his employees, he really did care. Also being involved in our community, like the Boys and Girls Club and many more local services.

I hope that the city council will take a good look at this and do the right thing.

Also, with the passing of Frank Alegre and all he has done for Lodi, you should consider him as well for the same privilege to honor him for all he did for the youths of our lovable, livable city. JACK VANDERLANS Lodi

Time to secure borders

Editor: One of the reasons I voted for President Donald Trump is on the building of a wall to secure our border. I support his efforts and agree the use of National Guard troops to keep illegals out until the wall is built.

I have a fenced backyard, locks on my doors and dogs that alert me of persons on my property so I can choose who enters my home.

According to Dan Patrick, the lieutenant governor of Texas, due to MS13 and other illegals, 650,000 crimes were committed, 566 murders, 274 kidnappings, 3,244 sex assaults, 29,164 assaults, and thousands of drug and gun crimes in a seven-year period.

According to the mayor of Escondido, who entered the United States legally and became a citizen, he's joining other California cities denouncing the state-imposed sanctuary law. He swore to uphold the laws to protect the rights of the citizens in his oath of office.

Why would liberals want to break the laws of our government? I have no objections to tax-paying citizens personally paying the cost of housing, feeding, teaching the language and laws of our country and seeing illegals attaining citizenship. I personally do not trust any MS13 gang member and can not monetarily support one person’s requirements for legal status.

For those of you who continue to hate, here's a quote by the Buddha:

"Hatred does not cease by hatred at any time. Hatred ceases by love."

I’m praying every day for those of you who are consumed with hate. BETTY PFEIFLE Lodi
