Center for adults with special needs to hold fundraiser at Lodi winery

- By John Bays

Hoping to open The Village Adult Development and Community Center in Lodi soon, founder Kathy Piazza organized a fundraiser that will take place from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday, May 12 at McCay Cellars Winery.

The fundraiser will provide guests with an opportunity to tour The Village’s facility around the corner from McCay Cellars, Piazza said, where they can see the progress the center for adults with special needs has made and what items they still need.

“Our needs range from an iPhone compatible music system, tablets and a Smart TV to bean bag chairs, board games and craft supplies,” Piazza said. “Guests will also have an opportunity to sponsor special events for our Village members such as a Teen Karaoke and Music Party, a Parade of Lights Hot Chocolate Party and more. On display at the center will be examples of specialized items that will be used in the program such as switch-activated lights, toys and communications devices.”

Guests will have the opportunity to purchase some of the items to donate at McCay Cellars, Piazza said, as well as tickets to a 50/50 raffle. Half of the proceeds from selling raffle tickets will be donated to The Village, she said, with the other half given to the winner as a prize.

The $40 admission ticket includes a dinner of street tacos, sides and appetizers by Chintos Tacos, Piazza said, along with a glass of McCay’s wine for guests 21 and older and Mexican-inspired desserts donated by Sweet Cindy’s Goodies Galore.

“There’s going to be more wine to buy, and McCay will donate all of the proceeds to us. Sweet Cindy’s will be donating the desserts, too,” Piazza said.

Due to limited capacity, guests should purchase tickets in advance at McCay Cellars Winery, 100 S. Sacramento St., Lodi, or online at www.eventbrite.com/e/kaleidoscope-2018/ tickets.
