Third killing in two weeks
Lodi man shot in back early on Saturday morning
A 41-year-old man was shot and killed early Saturday morning in Lodi. He has been identified as Raymond Sieg, according to Sgt. Steve Maynard of the Lodi Police Department.
It was the city’s third homicide in the past two weeks, and the fourth this year.
At approximately 1:33 a.m. Saturday, officers responded to a call of an unresponsive male in the area of Lodi Avenue and Cherokee Lane, according to a press release from the Lodi Police Department. A San Joaquin County Sheriff’s patrol vehicle was in the area and was flagged down by the reporting party.
Deputies located the victim with a gunshot wound to his back, lying in the roadway, police said. Lifesaving efforts were attempted, but the victim was later pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel.
The victim appeared to have been riding a bicycle with an attached trailer at the time of the incident. Investigators processed the scene and conducted a neighborhood canvass for witnesses and video surveillance. The investigation is on-going.
Police are unsure what could have led to this shooting, Sgt. Andre Belaski said. He was unsure whether the incident is gang-related.
“It’s hard to tell right now. As we continue the investigation, we may get more information on that,” Belaski said. “It’s early in the investigation, and we still trying to develop more information.”
