ADRIANA WARMERDAM FERRY

-

Adriana Warmerdam Ferry, 84, passed away peacefully after a 23 year battle with cancer that she faced with bravery, dignity and a glass half full attitude. At her bedside were her husband, daughters and granddaughters, Noelle and Marissa.

Adriana, was known fondly to many as Sjaan. Her life story began on June 5, 1933 in Noordwijkerhout Holland. Her parents were Johannes and Adriana Warmerdam. She was the tenth of eleven children and always had a loving relationship with all of them. They were all very close despite that six of them had immigrated to the USA and the other five remained in Holland. Adriana was only seven years old when the Germans invaded Holland. Her best stories about her childhood centered on her family’s life during the German occupation of their country.

She attended school in Holland where she completed her high school education. She immigrated to the United States 1952, at the age of 20, with her lifetime friend Jim Aartman. They traveled first by boat to New York then by bus across the country to Lodi to join her family that had immigrated previously. Lodi became her new home where she remained until her passing. Adriana raised her four children with their father, Gerald Vanderlans. Then as the owner of Valley Rentals she managed her own investment properties until she was recently hospitalized.

In 1988 she married her devoted husband David Ferry whom she is survived by. During their 30 years together they enjoyed trips to the coast, The Netherlands and the casinos. Adriana was an avid recreational gambler. She was also a dog lover and always had at least one poodle in her life.

Adriana is survived by her husband David, her two daughters, Adrian (Victor) Schuh and Lillie (Steve) Thomas. Her sons Gerald Vanderlans and Eric Vanderlans. Her step sons David (Cherie) Ferry Jr. and Shawn (Gricelda) Ferry. Also, she leaves behind 18 grandchildren and 10 greatgrandchildren. In Holland, her younger sister, Ellie Van Haaster. And let’s not forget her faithful dog George.

There will be a church service and Celebration of Life on her 85th birthday, June 5, 2018, at Saint Joaquim’s Catholic Church in Lockeford, California at 11 AM. She will be laid to rest at Harmony Grove Cemetery near her sisters Alie and Annie and her brothers John, Albert and Gerard.
