Local trio sees plenty of playing time in all-star loss

-

Three Lodi area high school softball players competed in the 41st annual Optimist High School Softball All-Star game on Wednesday.

Elliot Christian High’s Madi Sepp, along with Galt’s McKinzie Spriggs and Liberty Ranch’s Jordyn Farren, played for the South team of the SmallSchools game. The North team came out with a 7-4 win in the eight inning contest. High school softball games go seven innings.

In the contest, Sepp, Spriggs and Farren only batted twice each. Farren singled for the South, and reached base again on an error.

Sepp started behind the plate for the South. She also played first and second bases in the contest. Spriggs came into the game at shortstop, and also played third base and right field. Farren caught after Sepp moved to first base, and played first base for an inning.

Sepp said she’s never been teammates with Farren or Spriggs until Wednesday’s game. But each have played against each other in travel soft-

ball tournaments in recent years.

“Jordyn has been one of my best friends ... on and off the field,” said Sepp of Farren. “We’ve played against each other.”

Sepp, who had a .672 batting average for the Eagles this past season, will play her final high school softball game on Friday, June 15 in the 28th annual AllStar Classic at Delta College in Stockton.

“I think that last high school (all-star) softball game is when it’s going to hit me the hardest,” Sepp said.

Spriggs had an even batting average of .500, plus 33 RBIs and nine triples. On defense, she had a fielding percentage of .842. Spriggs will be attending and playing softball at Sacramento City College when the fall semester begins in August.

Farren is a three-year starter for Liberty Ranch. Farren finished her senior year with a .455 batting average, 39 RBIs, 10 doubles and five home runs. On defense, Farren had a .976 fielding percentage at catcher and third base for Galt’s second high school. Farren, too, will be teammates with Spriggs at Sacramento City College later this summer.
