It appears Jim Cooper and Harry He will be making their way to the November ballot in the race for the District 9 Assembly seat. As of 10:44 p.m. with 150 out of 196 precincts partially reporting, Cooper was in the lead with 17,670 votes and He was next with 4,189 votes. Mario Garcia was not too far behind with 3,871 votes.

“We’re very encouraged for the results and really want to thank our volunteers and all of our supporters and especially the people of Lodi for supporting us in winning Cooper’s re-election campaign,” Cooper campaign manager Skylar Wonnacott said Tuesday night.

Cooper, a 30-year veteran of the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department, has served in the assembly since 2014.

If re-elected, Cooper would like to focus on job developmen­t, funding for education and ensuring public safety employees have the resources they need to do their jobs.

He is an informatio­n technology manager for People Supermarke­t, Inc. This is his first time running for public office before.

If elected, during in his first 90 days He would like to lay the foundation for campaign finance reform in California, establish a culture that prevents sexual harassment, hold a town hall in every city in his district and build alliances that will help him achieve the reforms that he promised to voters.

Garcia is a business owner from Galt. He was also running for public office for the first time.
