Aaron Judge shrugs off eight strikeout day in NY Yankees doubleheader

TORONTO — Aaron Judge admitted “it was a terrible day,” striking out eight times during Monday’s day-night doubleheader at Detroit.

“But that’s the beauty of baseball, you get to wake up and have a fresh (set of) at-bats tomorrow.”

Actually, it was possible that Judge would not start Tuesday night against the Blue Jays, but “it wouldn’t have anything to do with” the three Ks in Monday’s opener at Detroit, and the 0for-5 — all strikeouts — in the nightcap, according to his manager.

“We’ll see,” Aaron Boone said. “I’m considering just because I was considering it at some point on this trip.”

Stop if you’ve heard this before, but the strikeout is part of being Aaron Judge. Even in another MVP-caliber season, there will be nights like this.

“They just made their pitches tonight, and I just had a terrible day at the plate,” Judge said Monday night after his final strikeout, batting as the tying run against the Tigers’ Shane Greene in the ninth.

“It’s my job to get (the runner) in or tie the game up,” Judge said. “I just didn’t get the job done.”

The Tigers won 4-2, gaining a daynight doubleheader split against the Yanks.

As Judge says, “If I went 0-for-4 or 4for-4, none of those at-bats are going to help me tomorrow. Why worry about it?

“You learn from them. You learn from mistakes,” Judge added. “But you get to start fresh tomorrow.”
