LODI ALL-STARS START TOURNEY WITH WIN

Pitchers Devine and Brassesco combine for four-inning no-no

The Lodi BOBS 12U AllStars opened the Cal Ripken District 1 Tournament with a fireworks show on Thursday at Salas Park, defeating Escalon 25-0.

Two pitchers combined for a no-hitter, with Carson Devine going three innings with seven strikeouts and two walks, and Gianni Brassesco finishing the last inning with three strikeouts and a walk.

Lodi moves on to face Ripon in the three-team, double-eliminatio­n tournament at 6 p.m. today back at Salas Park. The loser of that game will face Escalon in an eliminatio­n game, with the winner going to the championsh­ip.

At the plate, Lodi, which was officially the visiting team, got things rolling quickly, with a 7-0 lead after the first two innings. Nearly ever member of the starting lineup got a hit, and the two that didn’t scored three runs between them after reaching base in other ways.

Jaxon Diede led the attack, going 3-for-3 with six RBIs and two runs. Preston Plath was 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBIs, Vance Haskins was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs, JoJo Elsbree was 2-for-5 with two runs and an RBI, Gavin Mora was 2-for-3 with two doubles, two walks, three runs and two RBIs, Logan Edwards was 2-for-2 with two walks, Devine had a single, an RBI and four runs, Nico Lombardi had a single, three walks, an RBI and three runs, four RBIs and a run, Brassesco had two walks and two runs, Joe Focacci had a run and Caiden Andes had two walks and two runs.

Lodi was extremely aggressive on the base paths, with 21 stolen bases out of 22 attempts. Diede, Brassesco, Devine and Haskins each had three stolen bases.
