Mail thieves make life difficult

-

Editor: The past few weeks Lodi has been faced with a new crime problem. Eight of the attractive brick-encased mail box units serving many of our homeowners in the Millsbridge and Sun West neighborhoods have been vandalized and or destroyed by late night predators and mail has been stolen.

In addition to the loss of important personal mail there is the inconveniences of frequently picking up and mailing letters at the main Post Office. Postal authorities have stated that most of the boxes and brick work units must be torn out by the residents before newer, simpler and stronger postal box units can be installed on the same cement pads. This is quite costly for many and a very strenuous undertaking if done manually by fellow good neighbors.

I trust that our citizens will be vigilant and alert and be prompt in reporting to our Lodi Police any present and future information and or sightings of such evil actions throughout the year. ART JOHN Lodi

Upset that families are being separated

Editor: I am angry and outraged. The un-American Trump policy of separating children from their asylum-seeking families at our border is dramatically wounding to the children, soul rending to the parents, and includes infants being taken from their mothers’ arms.

This from those who have wrapped themselves in the blanket of “family values.” Let us be clear these children and adults are being placed in tents and kept in places where the summer heat is often over 100 degrees. These are nothing but concentration camps. Donald Trump and Jeff Sessions have replaced the American flag with the swastika. FRED DANIELSON Woodbridge

Concerned about fellow drivers

Editor: I also have a concern about which way people drive.

This has happened at the intersection of Mills and Kettleman a number of times. While in a lane on Mills and Kettleman, I was in the middle lane to go straight while a vehicle was ahead of me with his blinker on to go left. When the light turned green, I couldn't go straight so got out of the lane so I could go straight and another vehicle also had to go straight and followed suit. Lucky there wasn't a vehicle to the right of us. There is a sign posted before the intersection to explain the lanes, and apparently the guy didn't make note of the turn lanes. One of these days, there is going to be an accident if people don't pay attention.

Another time in the same intersection a few weeks ago, my husband and I were in the left turn lane and another vehicle was also turning left from the middle lane and nearly hit us. As he passed, he was cussing us out for us making a wrong turn.

I reported these problems to the police department last week and hopefully they will monitor this intersection somewhat. LILLI HENRICKSEN Lodi
