Hire more police officers now

-

Editor: I am quite concerned about the effectiveness of our local police department due to the lack of staffing. I believe in supporting our police department in every way. Lodi has always been a special community and one of the reasons is the dedication of our local police department and its efforts in enforcing the law.

With the past and future explosion of growth in our town, our police department becomes our most important community resource. Our police department cannot successfully do its jobs while operating without adequate numbers of officers. We must immediately increase our officers and again be the community that we once were.

If we need 11 officers at this time, then hire and train 15 and allow our police department to get ahead of the need because the need for more officers will be here soon.

This action should be accomplished now. Do not wait another six months. If a tax is needed to pay for it, then it should be established now.

The safety and contentment of our community is our most important asset and must be protected and enforced immediately.

PHIL HAMILTON Lodi What can you do for your country?

Editor: In response to Mushtaq A. Tahirkheli’s letter of June 26, 2018, I agree with him that all registered voters should exercise this very important right to cast their ballots. I also agree that the mid-term election turnout will be small or modest.

I can’t agree with much anything else. He states, (sic) “The people are nearly tired of the majority of politicians because they created troubles for working class people. They got everything but return nothing.”

OK, so I agree that I don’t like politicians either, however, is he aware that taxes and unemployment are now the lowest in decades? So what kind of troubles is he talking about? He states Muslims “didn’t get anything from Republicans except hate and bad names.” Not that Muslims or anyone else should “get anything” but refer to the previous paragraph about lower taxes and low unemployment.

Living in this country should not be about what you can take from it but rather what you can do for it. Continuing, he asks Muslims to root out racists from society. Everyone should root out racists, but if I made a comment like that encouraging Christians to do the same I would be labeled a xenophobe and bigot. He wants “the California government to fix the mistake and give Muslims a share in the government.” People in government in this country get elected regardless of race or religion. Nobody gives anyone “a share.” And, if he feels that California politicians are being unfair to him and other Muslims, then he should be pointing his finger at the Democrats. They have controlled this state for decades. So, if you like the result, keep voting Democrat.

RICHARD WRIGHT Lodi Hoping for a return to civility

Editor: Thanks to the News-Sentinel for printing the cartoon featuring the cap with the logo “Make America Civil Again.”

The encouragement by Maxine Waters and other radical leftists for personal attacks on Trump officials and anyone of us for voting and supporting President Trump is fomenting violence and hatred. Being called lowlifes, scumbags, and Nazis, and encouraging personal attacks at gas stations, restaurants and department stores is organized hatred and all decent people should condemn such behavior.

These left-wing radicals are perpetrating bullying, hatred, violence, vulgarity, destruction, all aimed at conservatives.

In my opinion, the mainstream media is guilty of slanted and unreported news. I hear reporters’ opinions, not the truth.

I want the wall built, extreme measures taken to keep our country safe. Illegal means “breaking the law.” Parents who bring their children to illegally enter the United States are responsible for the safety and future of their children. Don’t blame our laws and our government for doing their jobs.

I was once a registered Democrat and now, I’m ashamed of the party I once supported.

I pray for Make America Civil Again.
