Mitch Walding High school: St. Mary’s Sport: Baseball Professional: Lehigh Valley IronPigs (Phillies Triple-A) Walding, a 25-year-old third baseman, has a five-game winning streak dating back to July 4. He had a double and two runs on July 6, a single on July 7 and a home run on July 8, his 10th of the year.
Gio Brusa High school: St. Mary’s Sport: Baseball Professional: San Jose Giants (Giants AAdv.)
Brusa, a 24-year-old first baseman, hit safely in three straight games, with singles against Rancho Cucamonga on July 6 and 7, and a double with two RBIs against Stockton on July 9.
Alex Camacho High school: Ben Holt Sport: Baseball Professional: GCL Braves (Braves rookie league)
Camacho, a 21-year-old right-hander, pitched two scoreless innings of relief against the Tigers on July 7, with one hit and three strikeouts, then allowed five runs in a short appearance against the Blue Jays on July 10.
Nick Dentoni High school: Tokay Sport: Baseball Summer Ball: Willmar Stingers (Northwoods League)
Dentoni, a freshman right-hander, took his first loss of the summer on July 6, allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits in a 5-1 loss to Mankato. He is 2-1 so far.
Jacob Jordan High school: Lodi Sport: Baseball Summer Ball: Sacramento Heat
Jordan, a freshman left-hander, allowed one run in a three-inning relief appearance in a 5-3 loss to the bees on July 7, then allowed a run in another three-inning appearance in a 6-2 loss to the Bees on July 10.
Courtney Newport High school: Lodi Sport: Golf College: Holy Names
Newport, a recently-graduated senior, was one of two members of the Hawks’
women’s golf team to receive AllAmerican Scholar honors from the Women’s Golf Coaches Association for 2017-18. They are the first two from the program to earn the honor, which requires an athlete have a 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher, be in high moral character and good standing with the nominating institution and participate in 50 percent of the team’s competitive rounds. Newport was a third-team All-PacWest Conference selection this year for the second time, with three top-10 finishes in conference play.
Brad Reeves High school: Lodi Sport: Golf
Arizona Reeves began play in the 115th TransMississippi Amateur Championship on Tuesday, finishing the first day tied for 118th overall with a 3-over 75 at Brookside Golf & Country Club in Columbus, Ohio. He had two birdies and a bogey on the front nine, then had one birdie on the 10th hole and fell behind with a double-bogey and two bogeys in four holes.
