Lodi BOBS loses to Kingsburg

The Lodi BOBS 10U all-star baseball team scored many times in its final pool play game of the Cal Ripken Southwest Region Tournament against host Kingsburg on Thursday.

But Kingsburg was able to outhit Lodi, and came away with a 13-8 win. The loss puts Lodi at 1-3 in pool play action. According to Lodi coach Grant Plath, the local squad was eliminated from advancing after Arizona Yuma defeated Lodi 7-2 on Tuesday.

Lodi had nine hits in the game, but Kingsburg finished with 10. Andrew McEntire and Andrew Plath had two hits each for Lodi. Johnathan Trilla, plus Eric Munoz, Diego Pantoja and Juan Ullloa-Ceja, had one hit each. Munoz and McEntire had two RBIs each.

According to Grant Plath, this is the first time in more than 25 years that a Lodi BOBS all-star team has played in back-to-back regional tournament­s. The 2017 Lodi BOBS 9year-old squad played at the regional tournament in Utah. Most of the players on that team were on this summer’s squad.

Hot Shots 18 and under softball team, playing at the Triple Crown World Series at the Reno Sports Complex in Reno, Nev. on Thursday. Spriggs, a recent Galt High graduate, also had an RBI in the game, along with Mazza.

The loss puts the Hot Shots in a must-win situation in the double-eliminatio­n portion of the tournament. Pool play concluded on Wednesday in which the Hot Shots posted an 3-1 record. They are 16-12 for the season.
