MARGARET THAWLEY

-

Margaret “Peggy” Thawley passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 14th, 2018 at the age of 89. She was born on November 9th 1928 in Tacoma Washington to Forrest Payne Copeland and Sarah Louise Aleshire. Peggy attended high school in Southern California and married her husband Willard “Wid” Brevort Thawley in Los Angeles on March 28th 1948.

As a family they lived in Southern California, Puerto Rico for a “brief, memorable year” and then moved to Santa Rosa to fulfill a dream of owning a horse ranch, which grew to contain up to thirty horses. They then moved to San Jose, CA after her two boys were grown and Peggy worked for the United States Post Office. Later Peggy and Wid moved to Lodi, CA to be by her son Rich and his family and spent the rest of their lives in the countryside environment they loved.

Peggy served her community in a variety of ways including donating to local animal shelters and volunteering at the American Cancer Society Discovery Shops. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Peggy had quite the passion for family history and genealogy work as well. She left her posterity thousands of genealogical records, family pedigree charts, indexes and lots of other information pertaining to their ancestors. She routinely served in her church’s Family History Center in both San Jose and Lodi not only doing her own research but training many others to do the same.

Peggy had many interests including jewelry making, puzzles, watching movies, the game of solitaire, and she loved to read and learn about all sorts of subjects and current issues. She loved animals very much, especially horses and spent many hours tending her gardens and decorating them with porcelain turtles.

Peggy will be remembered for her love of animals, her compassionate heart, her strong “shoot straight” personality and the love she had for her family.

Later in life as Peggy developed dementia, she received incredible, loving care from her family, her good friend Lorraine Shropshire, as well as staff members from the companies America’s Senior Care and the Fairmont Rehabilitation Hospital.

Peggy was preceded in death by her husband Willard Thawley (November, 2003) and is survived by her two sons David Thawley and his wife Julie, Richard Thawley and his wife Cindy, her grandchildren Michelle Head, Christa Kennell, Alisha Thompson, Richard Thawley II, and Brett Thawley, her nephew Johnny Thawley and twelve great-grandchildren.
