Lodi Vintage Giants win Nor Cal

The Nor Cal 30-And-Over tournament was a success for the Lodi Vintage Giants, which went undefeated over the weekdn to win the championsh­ip at Zupo Field in Lodi.

The Lodi Vintage Giants entered as the top seed in the tournament, after having an epic first week going 3-0.

With the Andy Peterson dealing on the mound and Rick Morgan going 5-for-5 with six RBIs, Lodi Vintage Giants won the first game against Modesto, 15-7.

Lodi took on Benicia in the championsh­ip game, after Benicia defeated San Leandro earlier that day to advance.

Benicia carried that momentum from their previous victory into the early parts of the game against Lodi, which was down for a bit but played strong and got back control of the game.

Ryan Cook of the Lodi Vintage Giants got three hits, and John Stone had a home run.

Jim Rice was clutch in both games and in the fifth, Morgan came in to pitch for his last appearance before retirement.

Lodi Vintage Giants were down 11-3 but continued to play strong for a 17-13 victory, winning themselves the Championsh­ip, which is the fourth championsh­ip won by Lodi Vintage Giants.

The weekend before, during The Norcal Old Timers Dutch Van Wey Tournament in Lodi going from Saturday to Sunday, the Vintage Giants shut out Stanislaus 6-0 with a strong pitching performanc­e by Jimmy Sandoval.

The following Sunday’s two games were victouriou­s for the Vintage Giants, as they beat Modesto 9-2 and Tracy at 10-7 to earn the top seed in the championsh­ip tournament.
