JOHN WAYNE (BLINCOE) JOHNSON

John Wayne (Blincoe) Johnson entered into rest in his home on August 11, 2018 in Lodi at the age of 73. John is survived by his wife, Katherine; son, Jeff; step children Amber Dayton (Stephen) of Lodi, Jacob Macias (Sierra) of Hawaii, and James Macias (Merissa) of Arizona, special sons Matthias Dolderer (Heike) of Germany, Zach Macias (Kristel) of Madera, and Matt Lacey (Jessica) of Springfield; nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
John was born in Modesto, California on October 15, 1944 to Jack Blincoe and Betty Moran. He was adopted by his step father, Jack Johnson, at the age of 13. He graduated from Stagg High School in Stockton, CA in 1962. He was enlisted in the Navy from 1961 to 1965 and reached the rank of MM3 (SS) and as a member of the Commissioning Crew and a Plank Owner of the Nuclear Submarine the USS Lafayette (SSBN 616). After Serving in the Navy John worked various jobs at the Sharp Army Depot. as a machinist, Alan Meat Company as a stationary engineer, and belonged to the Operating Engineers No. 39 and many other positions. In 1982 he was hired by the State of California Department of General Services and served as a stationary engineer and rose through the ranks to become a Building Manager III for 23 years, managing such buildings as the California State Capital and the California Secretary of State’s building. He won awards and certifications throughout his tenure including an award for Efficiency and Energy Savings. While working for the State, John returned to school at Delta College earning his Associates Degree with Honors in 1986. He was also a member of the San Joaquin County Civil Grand Jury from 1987 to 1988. He retired from the State in 2005. He moved from Lodi to Fernley, Nevada from 2006 to 2011, eventually returning to Lodi.
He married Katherine Ann Macias Verner, in 1986 and they have traveled the world extensively together. John will be remembered by friends and family as an accomplished and avid Harley rider, attending numerous Harley runs, as a gardener and “tinkerer.” He could often be found creating and fixing little projects around the house. He loved and was dedicated to his many humming birds that would visit his garden and loved to go camping. He was a member of the Elks and Moose Lodges in Lodi. John was a dedicated patriot and “flag waver” participating in several Veteran’s Groups and the USS Lafayette Naval reunions, responsible for planning the second biennial reunion in 2007 in Banger, Washington.
A celebration of life will be held at the Lodi LOEL Senior Center on August 25 from 1pm to 4pm with attendees wearing Hawaiian or Harley Davidson shirts. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Lodi LOEL Center Meals on Wheels Program in Memory and Dedication of John W Johnson.
