Flames open TCAL with victory VOLLEYBALL GOLF MOTORCYCLE RACING

The Lodi High boys water polo team opened Tri-City Athletic League play with Monday’s 10-3 road victory over Lincoln, with Tristan Gorham blocking 13 shots. Victor Plunkett led Lodi with five goals, followed by Benton Peterson with two, and one each from Alex Elrod, Matt McCay and Eli Kim.

With the win, Lodi improved to 9-4 overall.

The Flames went 3-2 over the weekend to place fifth in the Napa Tournament, with a 10-2 victory over Concord in the fifth-place game. Peterson led with four goals, while Jack LeBaron, Elrod and Kim had two each. Gorham blocked eight shots.

The Flames went 2-0 on Friday, the first day of the tournament. In its first game, Lodi (7-2) beat Encinal of Alameda 12-2. Victor Punkett had five goals for the Flames and Benton Peterson four. Alex Elrod, Matt McCay and Eli Kim had one each. Lodi goalie Treston Gorham had four saves.

Punkett and Peterson had four goals each for Lodi, which beat Whitney of Rocklin 12-4 in the Flames’ second game. Jack LeBaron had two goals and Elrod and Kim had one each. Gorham had five saves.

Then came two losses on the second day — an 8-6 loss to Cardinal Newman and an 8-6 loss to Terra Linda. Elrod and Kim had two goals each against Cardinal Newman, with one each from LeBaron and McCay,and five blocks from Gorham.

Against Terra Linda, Gorham had 15 blocks, while Peterson had two goals and LeBaron, Elrod, McCay and Kim had one each to set up the fifth-place match.

Tokay 7, Tracy 3

Nate Bonhom had four goals to lead the Tigers to a league-opening victory on Monday, along with one each from Eric Desantiago, Ryan Means and Owen Canestrino. Varsity girls

Tokay 12, Tracy 3

Nicole Iturraran scored eight goals to lead the Tigers to victory on Monday, along with two each from Katie McClain and Lizzie Macfarlane. Alanna Stoops blocked seven shots.

Lincoln 11, Lodi 8

Kelsey Siria had 11 saves as the Flames lost to open TCAL play, falling to 5-4 overall. Jackie Westerterp had four goals, Elisa Grim had two and Hannah Wilson had two. Junior varsity boys

Zach Larson led with four goals in Monday’s TCAL victory.

Sam Meyers blocked 13 shots in Monday’s loss, with three goals from Jack Isola, two from Braden Endter, and Seth Hillstrom and Max Boudreau had one each. Junior varsity girls

Mikaela Schmierer scored Lodi’s lone goal in Monday’s loss, and Hannah Combs had six saves.

Tokay 3, Lincoln 1

Kayly Pau led the Tigers with 15 kills in Monday’s 2519, 22-25, 25-21, 25-23 victory. She added four aces, four blocks and five digs.

Grace Polhemus had three aces and 22 digs, Ravneet Rajasansi had 15 assists, Natalie Polhemus had 15 assists, three aces, nine kills and 10 digs, Ehlie Burroughs had nine blocks and Belle Patino had 14 digs. Junior varsity

Paige Delphi had three kills and Darianna Guidi had 17 digs in the Tigers’ loss. Freshmen

Tatum Gagna had six kills and six digs, and Madison Covery-Taylor had 12 digs and three aces as the Tigers fell to 1-2 in TCAL play.

Lodi 298, West 328

The Flames improved to 2-4 in the TCAL and 4-4 overall with Monday’s victory at Tracy Country Club’s par-37 course.

Catie Newport led Lodi with a 49, followed by Desiree Vasquez (50), Katelyn Gonzalez (61), Hollie Becker (67) and Emily Coons (71).

Lodi Cycle Bowl

Christian Spurgeon of Lodi came up big in a pair of races over the weekend at the Lodi Cycle Bowl, winning the Lodi Money race, one of the main events, as well as the 450cc Open A race. Tony Meiring of Tracy won the Dash for the Cash.

The 100 National race saw Hollister’s Michael Indebitzin win after Stockton’s David Jorgensen led the early laps. Meiring was third.
