Get ready for some light rain in Lodi

Cool days this week, but sunny again after Thursday

- By Kyla Cathey

Lodi may see its first burst of crisp, cool fall weather this week, complete with a little rain — but it’s not expected to last.

The rain could begin this evening, with most of the moisture coming overnight, according to private forecasting firm Accuweather.

“We’re going to see a little bit of an unsettled pattern here, pretty much our first Pacific storm of the year,” senior meteorologist Dave Samuel said.

He warned drivers to take care on the roads, since oil, rubber and other substances can collect on the asphalt during dry months. The first rainfall of the year can make the roads a bit slippery until those substances have washed away, he said.

Aside from that, however, the storm is more likely to bring scattered showers than a real drenching rainfall.

“We’re not talking about flooding or anything like that,” Samuel said.

Still, those with grills and furniture still out on the patio may want to start putting it away for the season — or at least get it covered until the rain passes.

The National Weather Service predicts highs between the mid-70s and 80 degrees in the Sacramento region this week, with chances of precipitation Monday evening through Thursday.

“It should be fairly cool the next couple of days,” NWS meteorologist Tom Dang said. “The normal for this time of year is the mid-80s, so it’ll be 5 to 10 degrees cooler than normal.”

Conditions will be similar in the foothills and in the Tahoe area this week, but with an additional 20 to 30 percent chance of rain in Thursday’s forecast and Lake Tahoe’s high temperatures in the 60s.

The cooler weather and precipitation are byproducts of a high-pressure system blowing in from the Pacific Ocean. By the time it finishes passing through the region by the end of the week, weather in the Sacramento region will warm back up a few degrees, Dang said, but may still remain slightly below average for early October.

Lodi can expect to dry up by Thursday, which Accuweather predicts will be in the low 70s and partly cloudy. While the weather will likely warm up a little toward the weekend, the area can expect highs in the high 70s and low 80s over the next week or two.

A few days over the next few weeks may be partly cloudy, but Lodi should see several sunny fall days, too.

“It doesn’t look like this is going to start a rainy stretch,” Samuel said.
