2 Twin Arbors athletic clubs to remain open

- By John Bays

Two Lodi gyms will remain open that were expected to close, although a third will still be closing its doors for good.

The Twin Arbors Racquetball Club on South Hutchins Street and Fitness Works on West Lockeford Street will be purchased by two different buyers and operated separately effective Nov. 30, according to an email sent to members by general manager Dennis Kaufman on Friday, although the Twin Arbors Tennis Club on Cochran Street will still close on the same date.

“We were just notified today that they’re in the 11th hour of signing the paperwork,” Twin Arbors spokeswoman Kelly Geist said on Friday.

Club memberships will no longer be automatically terminated as of Nov. 30, the email said, and members will be updated about membership options under the new owners as more information becomes available in the coming weeks.

“Members don’t have any hiccups a this point,” Geist said. “They can continue to come to the clubs and use them just as they always have.”

All three clubs were originally scheduled to close on Nov. 30 after Spare Time, Twin Arbors’ parent company, made the decision to pull out of Lodi, Geist said, due to aging facilities and “other decisions.”

Although she could not release the identities of the two buyers as the sales have not yet been finalized, Geist said that both are Lodians.

“I’m really happy about that, because they’ll understand Lodi,” Geist said.
