Lodi tennis duo wins TCAL doubles tourney
Nikki Barajas and Johnna Schroeder were winners for Lodi at Friday’s Tri-City Athletic League Girls Doubles Tennis Championships at InShape Marina in Stockton.
In the title match against St. Mary’s Ali Gabbard and Izzy Garcia, Barajas and Schroeder won in three sets; 6-4, 3-6, 6-2. The win sends BarajasSchroeder to the Sac-Joaquin Section’s individual/doubles tournament, which will be held at Johnson Ranch Racquet in Roseville on Nov. 1-2.
Before reaching the finals, Barajas-Schroeder knocked off another St. Mary’s doubles squad 10-6. To start the tournament, Barajas-Schroeder defeated one of Tracy’s doubles teams 10-1.
Other Lodi players who played at the tournament were Cece Chinchiolo-Jenna Dougherty and Mia CaroubaAnna Spaletta. Each team won their first round matches before being eliminated in thesecond round.
Tokay players who competed at the tournament were Gwyn Steele-Bianca Simmons, Addison Stone-Jasmine Gill and Madison Lozano-Reese Workman. All three teams went 1-1 at the tournament.
Liberty Ranch
Taking second place in the Sierra Valley Conference with a 7-3 record for a third place finish, Liberty Ranch earned the section’s Division IV volleyball playoff berth at No. 10.
On Tuesday, Liberty Ranch (15-17) hits the road for its playoff opener at No. 7 Calaveras. This will be the second meeting this season between the two teams; Calaveras swept the Hawks 3-0 in a nonleague contest at Calaveras’ gym on Aug. 29.
The Liberty Ranch-Calaveras winner takes on the No. 15 Livingston-No. 2 Colfax winner on Thursday, Oct. 25.
