Support Rhoads for city council

-

Dear Editor: As a city resident of District 2, I follow local issues closely.

In your candidate questionnaire, Incumbent Councilman Mark Chandler says he will get the city more grants. How? Is he specially trained in grant writing? Trained on souring? Ever written one?

He says he sat on a counsel but never explained how that helped Lodi. (not the city council).

He supports Measure L. That raises taxes to go into the general to help fund the CalPERS (pension bill), who “Barron’s Financial Magazine” recently wrote was the worst pension fund in America. The fund doesn’t have enough money to meet current or future obligations. Dead money.

District 2 is made up of working-class neighborhoods. We work hard for our money and make every dime count. We cant afford to throw good money after bad, especially when we know that soon, we will have to keep raising taxes just to stay where we are.

When riding a dead horse, dismount!

We have a choice for a change. Spencer Rhoads opposes more taxes. He wants to streamline expenses and salaries, make our city utilities more responsible with their expenses and return savings to the ratepayers.

He has several ideas on raising money and community services for our parks. I’ve been asked to help.

He believes it’s time to make our money work for us, not us to work for more money.

His agenda is, 1. Prioritize police. 2. Oppose tax and rate increases. 3. Tackle homelessness. 4. Rein in rising pension costs.

It’s time to work smarter, not harder.

Please join me in supporting Spencer Rhoads for city council. TIM KELLOGG Lodi
