Three Lodi Jr. Flames football teams are looking to bring home Super Bowl trophies this weekend.

The Jr. Flames’ varsity, starters and future teams will be making the trek to Ceres High to compete in the Central Valley Gridiron Youth Football Super Bowl games on Saturday. The day starts with the Jr. Flames’ Future team (6 and under), which is 9-0, playing the El Captain Jr. Gauchos at 10:30 a.m. In a CVG league game on Oct. 13, the Jr. Flames defeated the Jr. Gauchos 27-6. The Jr. Flames went 7-0 during the regular season, plus winning their first two playoff games to reach the Super Bowl.

In the Starts (8 and under) title game that is scheduled to kick-off at noon, the Jr. Flames (9-1) will also play the Jr. Gauchos. During their league contest, also on Oct. 13, the Jr. Gauchos dominated the Jr. Flames 32-8. Lodi finished its regular season at 7-1, along with winning its first two playoff games.

The varsity contest is the final game of the day, which will pit the Jr. Flames (10-0), who dominated their regular season opponents in scoring and scoring allowed 302-32, will take on the Jr. Gauchos at 6 p.m. Lodi posted a 54-0 win over El Captain in their Oct. 13 league contest.

According to Cindy Bentz, one of the Lodi Jr. Flames’ board members, the games are still planned to kick-off as of Thursday evening.

During the week, high school and college athletics have had games/contests postponed or cancelled because of the air quality from the smoke of the Camp Fire in Butte County, north of Sacramento.
