Hallowes celebrate 50 years of marriage
Ricky and Pamela Hallowes will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Nov. 24, 2018. That’s 350 dog years.
It all began when two very young puppies decided to tie the knot at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Lodi. It was 1968, Rick was 19 and had just enlisted in the Army. Pam was born and raised in Lodi and was 16. What we they thinking?
We could not even imagine the thought of being married for 50 years, but here we are. The time has gone by at light speed. After four years of marriage we were blessed with our only child, Shaul Kosmo Hallowes, after Pam went through three miscarriages. We now have one grandson, Tyler. During our first six years while on active duty we moved several times from the East Coast to the West Coast.
Over the years Pam worked as a retail clerk and Rick as a VW mechanic, then retiring from the Postal Service and 25 years in the military. Our first two homes were in Morada then in 1986 we moved into a trailer on five acres in Valley Springs. For the next 3 1/2 years we built the four-level geodesic home we now call home. After retiring in 2007 Rick began flying powered paragliders and became an instructor for a company called Paratoys. In 2014 Rick had to slow down a little due to a hip replacement, but resumed flying and instructing for Cors-Air Paramotors after a couple months of recovery.
We can’t imagine living anywhere else than Valley Springs. We have everything we need within a one-hour drive. An occasional trip to the valley, three local lakes to play in, exploring wild caves, camping, flying, prospecting, working around the house, and some fantastic locals we call our dear friends. Currently we have no plans for our special day because Pam is dealing with health issues, but hopefully we can celebrate in the near future.
