Tigers begin soccer season with home victory

The Tokay High boys soccer team opened the season with a 5-1 victory over Franklin of Elk Grove at the Grape Bowl on Monday.

Lionardo Ruiz scored twice to lead the Tigers, along with one each from Alfonso Ochoa, Eduardo Guillen and Finn Kreuder. Ochoa added two assists, with one each from Eduardo Rodriguez and Rodrigo Hernandez.

In goal, Miguel Cervantes and Jorge Orejel had two saves each. The Tigers play at Sheldon on Wednesday.

Calaveras 50, Tokay 47

Adam Johnson led the Tigers with 12 points in Saturday’s loss at the San Joaquin Tip-Off, followed by Austyn Reiswig with 10, Hamza El Kheidi with nine, Anoop Singh with eight, Hamdallah El Kheidi with five and Chase Ivey with three.

Junior varsity

Tokay 41, Florin 39

The Tigers opened the season with a win on Monday, led by 13 points from Ryker Henne and 10 from Cylas Riley. Mariano Montez added seven, A.J. O’Grodnick had six, Seth Cunha and Guillermo Melendrez had two each and Jorden Lawrence had one.

Rocklin 47, Lodi 34

Savannah Head led the Flames with 13 points in Saturday’s loss, along with seven each from Reese Hohenthane­r and KayLeigh Coberly, four from Annette Vasquez and three from Angie Fugazi.
