LEONARD FISCHER

Leonard Fischer was born on July 18, 1928, in Harvey, North Dakota (ND), and passed away on Thursday, November 15, at the age of 90 in Lodi, CA, following a long illness. Mr. Fischer is survived by his daughter Lisa (Fischer) Barcellos of El Cerrito, CA, his daughter Lenette (Fischer) Million of Lodi, CA, and three beloved grandchildren, Carli Million of Lodi, CA, Anna and Matthew Barcellos of El Cerrito, CA. He is also survived by his dear sister Victoria (James) Denney of Stockton, CA and brother Art Fischer of Manfred, ND, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his first wife Flora Jean (Mertz) Fischer of 5 years in 1961 (Lodi, CA) and his second wife Carlene Rae (Ebel) Fischer (Lodi, CA) of 51 years in 2015, his father Michael Fischer (Harvey, ND), his mother Anna Fischer Meier (Lodi, CA), and siblings Paul Fischer, Ida Reiswig, Michael Fischer, Linda Fischer, Clara Fischer and Alexander Fischer. He moved from Harvey, ND to Lodi, CA as a young teenager and graduated from Lodi Union High School in 1946. He worked at Super Mold Corporation in Lodi, CA until the fall of 1950 when he enlisted in the Navy during the draft for the Korean War. Mr. Fischer served as Airman First Class on sea duty in Japan for the majority of his 4 years after completing boot camp. He returned to Super Mold in 1953 where he worked for almost 30 years until 1975; as a journeyman machinist and then in management (operations quality control, manufacturing, and engineering) for the last 15 years. Mr. Fischer worked for San Joaquin County Parks and Recreation as a supervisor for two years, and then for 13 years with Lodi Unified School District where he retired in 1990 as Director of Maintenance and Operations. In retirement, Mr. Fischer enjoyed golfing and many other hobbies, including restoring clocks. He was an avid motorcycle rider for more than 60 years of his life, including both dirt and street riding; he loved playing both pool and card games, genealogy, and he was gifted with an ability to ‘fix anything’. He enjoyed all kinds of music and would often play his accordion. He was a dedicated son, husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend to many in Lodi. He will be remembered as a kind and loyal man who loved his family and will be dearly missed. The family would like to thank the amazing Brookdale Lodi and Optimal Hospice Care staff for their incredible love, support and care of Mr. Fischer. The family will hold a private service.
