Tokay soccer blanks Sheldon

The Tokay High boys soccer posted a 4-0 win over Sheldon on Wednesday, improving to 2-0 on the season.

Leonardo Ruiz scored two goals for Tokay (2-0), and also had two assists. Matthew Salas had a goal and an assist, while Tiger teammate Jordan Baumback had the other goal plus an assist. Jaime Garcia also had an assist.

Tokay goalies Christian Valencia had two saves in the first half. In the second half, Jorge Oregel had one save.

Next Tuesday, Tokay plays at Liberty Ranch at Hawks Stadium in a non-league contest.

BASKETBALL Varsity girls Galt 53, Chavez 12

Raina Saldivar scored 13 points for Galt (1-0), winning its first game of the season under new coach Angela DaPrato, in a non-league road game on Tuesday.

Haley Sanchez and Kaya Weaver had 12 points each for the Warriors. Hannah Aguirre, Jessica McAllister and Yuina Okubo had four points each, Julia Batta two and Kamia Aguilar one.

Oakdale 53, Tokay 27

Lexy Beadles (116-pounds) and Anayeli Ochoa (131) were two Tokay girls wrestlers took first place at the eighth annual Folsom High Girls Wrestling Invitation­al, which led to the Tigers taking first place out of 34 teams on Saturday. Tokay won with 167 points, followed by Albany at second place with 133 and Del Oro of Loomis third at 109 points.

Gabrielle Medeiros took second at 101 for Tokay, while teammate Jasmine Castro was third in the same weight class. Taking third place for Tokay were Samira Mason (121) and Yesenia Ruiz (142), while Itzel Gonzalez (160) and Arriana Galvan (189) took fourth place each.
