Warriors’ Green expected to return early next week
CLEVELAND — Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green could return from a right toe injury as early as Monday’s home game against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The Warriors (17-9) have formally ruled out Green for the remainder of this five-game trip with stops against Cleveland (Wednesday) and Milwaukee (Friday). But Warriors coach Steve Kerr said that Green “had another good day” on Wednesday and is “really making strides after missing 12 of the past 14 games.
Kerr said that the Warriors are expecting Green to return for Monday’s game against Minnesota or Wednesday’s game against Toronto. Green spent the end of morning shootaround on Wednesday receiving treatment on his toe. During the team’s pregame preparations, Green rode on a stationary bike.
“We’re excited about his progress,” Kerr said. “Hopefully it continues the next few days.”
Kerr had previously said that Green would need to complete a full practice before returning. He softened that stance on Wednesday, mindful that he often holds optional practices so he can rest his stars and veteran players. The Warriors are currently scheduled to practice on Thursday in Milwaukee.
“He’s getting live action now. He’ll probably get some live action tomorrow,” Kerr said. “We may not have a heavy practice. But he could get some scrimmaging in with the other guys and coaches.”
