Lodi Unified reviews schematic design for Tokay High School
The Lodi Unified School District Board of Education on Tuesday reviewed schematic designs that Leonard Kahn, the district’s chief business officer, said were part of a project to modernize and renovate the Tokay High School campus.
“The Tokay High Modernization Project is a Measure-Ufunded project to replace 18 portable classrooms and create a practice gymnasium for the high school,” he said.
With an estimated cost of $25 million, the project will
involve removing 10 portables next to the agriculture facility on the west side of campus, Kahn said, as well as eight portables on the outdoor basketball courts to the west of the stadium.
A new L-shaped building with 18 classrooms will be constructed on the southwest corner of the baseball field, Kahn said, and a new practice gym will be built between the tennis courts and the current gym.
“It’s not a (California Interscholastic Federation) competition gymnasium, but it can be used to host practices and youth sports events on weekends,” Kahn said.
Although Kahn estimates that construction may be completed by December 2021, the district must first bid the project out before even beginning the design period, he said.
“We currently estimate the bid documents to be advertised by mid- to late-February, then a seven- to eight-week timeline between that period and awarding the project,” Kahn said.
