BARBARA PLOWMAN

-

Barbara Lynn Plowman, 64, died peacefully in her Walnut Creek home on January 18, after a prolonged illness relating to renal failure. She was the youngest daughter of the late Kathryn and Warren A. Plowman, MD of Lodi.

As a young girl, Barbara was involved in tennis locally, was a tournament player throughout Northern California, and was in the Junior Tennis Rankings. She continued her tennis passion as a member of the University of California Berkeley tennis team. She always attended the reunions of her tennis team companions throughout the years.

A 1972 Lodi Union High School graduate, she received an AA in Electron Microscopy in 1978 from San Joaquin Delta College, a BA in Zoology from UC Berkeley in 1982, and Master of Arts degree in Interdisciplinary Arts from San Francisco State in 1989.

Barbara worked as an Electron Microscopist at University of the Pacific Dental School in San Francisco beginning in 1989 until declining health issues led to her retirement. She was an avid photographer and continued this passion throughout her adult life. That included electron microscopic photographs as well as nature’s beauty.

She is survived by her sisters, Karen Giorgianni of Lafayette, Elizabeth Plowman of Taos, New Mexico, and Norma Plowman of Taos, NM. She has three nephews, Ian Bonesteel, Matthew Giorgianni, Scott Giorgianni, and one niece, Nicola Plowman. There are two great nephews, Enzo and Frankie Giorgianni.

Being the artistic, loving, caring, generous, and sensitive person that she was, Barbara will be missed by family and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at the Mt Diablo Unitarian Universalist Church in Walnut Creek.
