Mavericks are trading Harrison Barnes to Kings
Harrison Barnes is headed to the state capital of California.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Dallas Mavericks are trading Barnes to the Sacramento Kings in exchange for Justin Jackson and Zach Randolph.
The Dallas Morning News’ Brad Townsend later confirmed the news.
Dallas was rumored to be shopping the small forward as Thursday’s trade deadline quickly approaches.
The Mavericks are hosting the Charlotte Hornets on Wednesday night. Barnes was sitting on the Dallas bench at the announcement of the trade, in what turned into an awkward scene at American Airlines Center. The veteran did not play in the second half — which serves as an indication
that management probably informed him of the trade during the game.
Barnes signed a four-year, $94 million deal with the Mavericks in the 2016. He’s averaged 13.5 points, 1.5 assists and 4.9 rebounds in six NBA seasons.
The Kings have long-term plans for Barnes, who has a player-option on his $25 million deal for the 2019-20, per ESPN.
As for the Mavericks, the team gets shooter in Jackson and a veteran inside presence in Randolph. Jackson is averaging 6.7 points, 1.3 assists and 2.8 rebounds a game in his second year with the Kings, while Randolph is putting up 14.5 points and 6.7 rebounds per game.
