Boy, 5, out of intensive care after being thrown from mall balcony

Months after he was viciously flung from a Mall of America balcony, a 5-year-old boy is finally out of intensive care.

The family of Landen Hoffman, who was thrown from a 40-foothigh balcony at the Minnesota mega-mall April 12, announced on a fundraising page that the boy had cleared the medical milestone.

“We are happy to report that our son is no longer in intensive care,” Landen’s family said in the statement shared by fundraising organizer Noah Hanneman on Thursday.

Landen is now in “an inpatient, physical rehab program at another hospital to help him continue to heal and focus on the next phase of his recovery,” the statement added.

“There is hard work ahead!” the family said. “And, our beautiful boy has endured much already, but he is strong and his spirit remains vibrant.”

Emmanuel Aranda, 24, pleaded guilty to throwing Landen over the balcony at the mall in Bloomington. Aranda reportedly told authorities he went to the mall looking “for someone to kill” after multiple women snubbed him.

In June, Aranda was sentenced to 19 years in prison for attempted first-degree murder, WCCO reports.

Prior to Thursday’s announcement, the family’s last statement, shared June 25, noted that Landen had undergone “more than 15 separate medical procedures or surgeries” since the attack.

Among other injuries, Landen reportedly needed his spleen removed, had two broken arms, a broken leg, facial and skull fractures, and required a stent in a vein connected to his liver.

The fundraiser, which has more 32,000 followers, has reached more than its goal of $1 million in an effort to help Landen’s family pay for medical expenses.
