Lodi loses, Galt wins in baseball

The Lodi High baseball team played its first game of the season against Turlock’s squad at Zupo Field on Tuesday, but visiting Turlock squeaked out a 3-2 win.

“We had a chance to win,” said Lodi coach Hobie Schultz.

Entering the top of the sixth inning, the game was knotted at 1-1. Then Turlock scored two runs to seal the win.

Lodi (0-1) had 6 hits and Turlock 8. Logan Stout had half of the Flames’ hits, all three being singles. Fidel Ulloa had a double and single.

On the mound, Ulloa pitched five innings and gave up two runs. Jeffery Werder tossed the final two innings, gave up two hits and struck out two.

“I’m happy with the way we pitched and played defense,” Schultz said. “We just needed to come up with the big hit.”

Galt 16, Venture Academy 2

Joe Ortiz had 4 hits that included a double and 6 RBIs for Galt (20) in Tuesday’s non-league road game in Stockton.

Logan Mayfield clubbed a triple and had two hits, along with Oscar Romero who had a double. Mason Tassano, Aaron Rosalia, Aden Humpheys, Cole Erman and Dominic Flores each had a hit.

On the hill, Sebastian Soto pitched and gave up two hits and struck out six. Rosalia had 3 strikeouts.

SOFTBALL Varsity Elk Grove 9, Lodi 0

The Flames had just two hits in Tuesday’s loss, with singles from Ashlee Toy and Johnna Schroeder.

Junior varsity Elk Grove 19, Lodi 15

After the Flames went down by 13 early on, the bats came alive in Tuesday’s loss.

Talisa Heinitz went 2-for-3 with 3 RBIs and stole home twice for the second time, Arianne Torres was 3-for-4 with 2 RBIs, Hadlee Evans was 3-for-4 with 2 RBIs, Gabrielle Fasano was 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs, Sophia Alejandrez was 2for-4 with an RBI, and pitched Kirsten Pilcher went 5 innings in the circle, with 5 strikeouts, and had a single at the plate.
