Flames place second behind Lincoln at Grape Games

The Tokay High track at Hubbard Field hosted the Grape Games on Saturday, with 10 teams, and the Lodi High boys and girls each placed second in the team standings.

The Lodi boys scored 97 points, second to Lincoln High’s 130, and the Lodi girls scored 115, second to Lincoln’s 138. Tokay was fourth in the girls scoring at 48, and seventh in the boys scoring at 35.

A few Lodi and Tokay athletes won their events, led by Lodi’s Ashlyn Jory, who won the 300 hurdles at 50.68 seconds and the high jump at 5 feet, 2 inches, as well as being part of the winning 4-by-400 team with Amelia Ellison, Ella Waters and Diana Vargas that finished with a 4:20.35. Jory also placed third in the 400 (1:03.28) to add to Lodi’s score.

On the boys side, Lodi’s Jaydin Rosenberg won the 400 at 59.35, Tokay’s Jaryn Eaton won the discus at 148 feet, 6 inches, and Lodi’s Nathan Shoup won the high jump at 510. Rosenberg also placed second in the 110 hurdles (17.48) and the 300 hurdle (41.97), and Eaton was second in the shot put at 42-5.

Other boys finishing in the top three of their events included Lodi’s Lucas Fonda (third in the 1,600 at 4:38.80), Lodi’s Jake Schwabauer (second in the pole vault at 100), Lodi’s Joe Bravo (third in the pole vault at 9-0), Lodi’s Maceo McDowell (second in the long jump at 21-0.75), Lodi’s Stephanos Pappas (second in the triple jump at 40-0), and Tokay’s Feliciano Preciado and Lodi’s Wyatt James, who tied for third in the high jump at 5-2. Lodi’s 4-by-400 team of Adolfo Sanchez, Eric Spangler, Rosenberg and McDowell also place second at 3:41.15.

Top-three finishers on the girls side included Tokay’s Kari Anema (second in the 800 at 2:28.74 and third in the 1,600 at 5:26.51), Tokay’s Kali Anema (third in the 800 at 2:33,43), Lodi’s Frida Rodriguez (third in the 3,200 at 12:53.25), Lodi’s Amelia Ellison (second in both the 100 hurdles at 16.96 and the 300 hurdles at 50.92), Tokay’s Lauren Frisk (second in the high jump at 5-0 and third in the long jump at 15-8.75), Tokay’s Ahnika Greenley (third in the pole vault at 7-0), Lodi’s Katrina Chang (second in both the long jump at 16-4 and the triple jump at 33-1.5), and Lodi’s Diana Vargas (third in the triple jump at 31-1).
