Report: Astros’ Bregman dumps his agent because of affiliation to LeBron James

- — Sarah Valenzuela, New York Daily News

Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman moving on from his agent is reportedly a bit more complicated than just wanting to go in a different direction.

On Tuesday, Bregman parted ways with his agent Brodie Scoffield, who used to run Tidal Sports Group. In April, the agency was acquired by Klutch Sports to work as its baseball arm of operations. Klutch is founded and run by Rich Paul, the agent for Lakers superstar LeBron James.

Only four days prior to the news, James’ media company, Uninterrupted, announced the creation of a docu-series focused on tracking the 2017 Astros and the continued ripple effects of their signstealing cheating saga. The news of that series, which will be called “Sign Language” and has no release date as of yet, only seemed to add insult to injury for Bregman, according to multiple reports.

Bregman’s name became tainted after knowledge of his involvement (and lack of contrition after) in the scandal came to light.

Here is how The Athletic described the situation:

“One source, however, said Bregman felt angry and betrayed Scoffield put him in a position in which a fellow Klutch client — the biggest star in the NBA — would help develop a series focusing on the darkest moment of his career.”

The 2019 American League MVP runner-up has been unapologetic about how his team won its first championship.

“The Commissioner came out with the report, MLB did their report, and the Astros did what they did, meaning they made their decision on what they’re gonna do and I have no other thoughts on it,” Bregman said in January after MLB handed down its soft punishment on the team. “No further comment on it.”
