Please help slow spread of COVID-19
Editor: My family and I recently returned from a camping trip to Jackson Hole, Wyo., where the city council mandated that everyone had to wear a mask while out in public. There were signs all over town reminding people that masks were required and many businesses had a table at the entrance with a box of masks and hand sanitizer.
This mandate helped local businesses to enforce this rule while allowing them to be open for business. A few streets were reduced to one-way traffic to allow restaurants to spread tables outside. Upon returning to Lodi, I see more people wearing masks but not enough and local COVID hospitalizations and deaths are on the rise.
Please wear a mask and social distance as the CDC advises as this virus can infect anyone and rising numbers will only slow down the opening of our town. CORENE PHILLIPS Lodi
Vote Trump out
Editor: America has been maliciously burdened now with the worst president in history. I won’t recite here all the mistakes, lies, hateful speech, and crimes of con man Trump.
And now, news that his buddy Putin’s Russia has been paying bounties to our enemies to kill our military in Afghanistan. Russia has been supplying weapons to our enemies, including ISIS, and heavy weapons in
Vietnam. That makes Trump a traitor since he does nothing about it.
As a combat veteran of the Vietnam War, I urge all voters to vote Trump out in November. The Republican Party should be ashamed for enabling this clown to reach and embarrass the office.

Enough is enough
Editor: Conservatives are ever appreciative of individuals who enjoy dragging out the rotting corpses of Mao Zedong, Karl Marx, and George Orwell to illustrate how liberalism is destructive to society. The quote from the father of modern conservatism, Russell Kirk, was also a nice touch. Kirk also stated: “A handful of individuals, some of them quite unused to moral responsibilities on such a scale, made it their business to extirpate the populations of Nagasaki and Hiroshima; we must make it our business to curtail the possibility of such snap decisions.”
Not only does Kirk paint President Truman and others as immoral mass murderers, he also believed that dropping the atomic bomb was a “snap decision,” forever obliterating the history of that decision.
I can only make the presumption that conservatives objecting to the removal of Confederate statues and the renaming of military bases believe that liberals want to rewrite history. Joint Chiefs Chairman, Gen. Mark Milley stated: “The American Civil War … was an act of treason at the time against the Union, against the Stars and Stripes, against the U.S. Constitution — and those officers turned their backs on their oath.”
Today, we have a similar traitor sitting in our White House. A man who cannot read and so ignores intelligence briefings warning that a pandemic is about to strike the U.S., and that Putin’s henchmen are paying enemies to kill our troops. He has no understanding of the U.S. Constitution and thinks it gives him unlimited powers with no oversight needed. He has no regard for American lives by attempting to force the re-opening of the economy and putting our children back into classrooms without appropriate safety measures. Hopefully, Americans will say enough is enough on Nov. 3 and send this sociopath home! JOANNE DELSOLAR
