Former Giants GM Bobby Evans among at least nine candidates for Angels spot

- FROM STAFF AND WIRE REPORTS

Bobby Evans, who was the San Francisco Giants general manager for four years and was among their top baseball executives during their run of three World Series titles, is among the candidates the Angels have interviewed for their GM job, according to a source.

Evans joins a group that also includes former Miami Marlins president of baseball operations Michael Hill, Washington Nationals special assistant Dan Jennings and Chicago Cubs vice president in charge of player personnel Jason McLeod and Seattle Mariners assistant GM Justin Hollander, a source confirmed.

The Angels have also interviewed Oakland A’s assistant GM Billy Owens, Padres special assistant Logan White and Arizona Diamondbacks assistant general managers Jared Porter and Amiel Sawdaye.

The group includes executives who have been on the staffs of eight World Series champions since 2004, including Evans’ three with the Giants in 2010, 2012 and 2014.

Jennings worked for the 2019 Nationals. McLeod and Sawdaye won rings with the Red Sox in 2004, 2007 and 2013, while Porter was with the Red Sox for the first two of those. McLeod and Porter worked for the Chicago Cubs in 2016, when Joe Maddon was the manager.

That doesn’t include White, who helped sign and develop many of players who just won the World Series with the Dodgers. The 2018 Red Sox also included players from the tenures of McLeod and Sawdaye.

So far those are the only eight candidates confirmed to be on the interview list as the Angels look to replace Billy Eppler, who was fired on the final day of the regular season. It is unclear how many candidates the Angels have interviewed, or plan to interview, beyond those eight.
