HARVEY (HENRY) ROOSEVELT MILLER

-

On Friday, January 15, 2021, in Lodi, California, Harvey (Henry) Roosevelt Miller with clear mind and support of family went to be with the Lord, due to complications from COVID-19. Born September 17, 1932 in Ashley, North Dakota to Henry and Frieda Miller.

In his younger years, Harvey was an avid golfer, water skier, and occasional accordion player. He always enjoyed tinkering in the garage and his workshop.

In 1953 he married his wife of 65 years, Nadine Krause. They moved to Lodi, California in 1957 where they raised their four children: Duwain, Judi, Glen, and Nancy. His death was preceded by his wife Nadine and daughter Judi Weir. He is survived by sons, Duwain Miller, Glen (Tamra) Miller and daughter, Nancy Novotny (Michael); son in-law, Paul Weir; grandchildren, Lauren Dinubilo, Kelley Athearn, Evan (Muna) Miller, and Jordan (Joan) Miller and Alex Weir; greatgrandchildren Jackson and Madison Dinubilo, and Lillian and Everette Miller; sister, Florence Saylor, and many nieces and nephews.

Harvey worked several jobs including working as a pit mechanic at car races. After moving to Lodi, Harvey was hired on-thespot at Hires Root Beer (later Nor Cal Beverage) by increasing the speed of a bottling machine they thought was at max. Later

he drove delivery trucks and finally retired from sales at Nor Cal Beverage Company after 37 years of service.

Driving was a relaxing pastime for Harvey. Family vacations to the Dakotas, Oregon, and Arizona

were common, and day trips to Sacramento, the Foothills or any available relative’s house were reasons to drive. Family trips to San Francisco in the 1960s were most interesting. A picnic in Golden Gate Park was very cool, but a slow drive through Height Ashbury was “WOW,” eye opening!

Family was very important to Harvey and Nadine. Annual Miller holiday traditions were created and sustained over their lifetime even as the family transformed and grew with spouses and grandchildren. Christmas Eve was always anticipated eagerly.

After Nadine’s passing, Harvey remained extremely close to his family. He spoke with his family almost daily. Harvey also had so much support and happiness in his home at Solstice with his friends. He found great strength in Jesus and was a member of First Baptist Church of Lodi since 1957.

He will be missed by his family for his wisdom support, kindness, laughter, soft heart, and unconditional love. The compassionate nurses at Lodi Adventist Hospital lovingly arranged for his family to say their goodbyes and spend time with him through video chats during his last two days. The family wishes to thank the nurses and other members of the dedicated teams at the hospital for their wonderful care.

If anyone wishes to make a donation in his memory, the family requests that they be made to First Baptist Church in Lodi. A memorial service will be held in the future. That date has not been set at this time. Good night, Pops. “Ooh Gah.”
