LESTER VIEL

-

Lester Lee Viel passed away suddenly January 2021 at the age of 86, born May 1934. Fondly known as “Lodi Les” he passed in his hometown of Lodi, California.

Les loved to find humor in most everything. He enjoyed laughter and sharing stories over a meal with friends. His quick wit brought a smile to those around him. His passion and love for the Lord was by far his greatest joy. Les loved to pray. One of his most favorite times was the Saturday morning prayer breakfast at Richmaid with a group of men dedicated to prayer.

As a big supporter of Israel and his local community he was known for his heart of giving. Most who knew Les would have a familiar story or event that reflected Les’s giving nature. He and his beloved wife, Carolyn Sue Viel (who preceded him in death) were always searching for an opportunity to bless those around them. Whether it was giving a homeless, single mom a van and groceries; or passing out gift cards at Christmas time to individuals at the Loel Center; they exhibited what giving was all about.

Les and Carolyn were members of Century Assembly and gave of their time to Lodi’s Adopt-ABlock and donated to missions. It was their heart’s desire to share the Gospel of Christ in any way they could.

Before coming to Lodi, they had a great group of friends from the Bethel Temple Church in Hayward who followed them for the famous Lodi Picnic at Mickey Grove put on by Les and Carolyn. Each year the group would gather to continue the friendships they loved and cherished so much.

Growing up, Les started working after leaving school in the 6th grade. Later in his career, he worked for Lodi Unified School District as a janitor and was a butcher for Safeway. Les was also an avid and masterful bowler. He scored several 300 games. He was known by many at the bowling alley where he created lasting memories.

Carolyn was the secretary for the San Joaquin County , Lodi Unified Superintendent for many years. She was known for her outstanding secretarial and organizational skills. Carolyn was a sensational person. She too was very giving and often went out of her way to give a thoughtful gift to someone, or send a kind and uplifting note. As a friend, you knew that Carolyn would always remember those special celebrations in your life. Together Carolyn and Les meant so much to so many

Les is survived by his brother-in-law Lowell Crocker of Sacramento and niece Sandra Dallas of Sacramento, CA and nephew John Crocker of Las Vegas, NV and niece Penny Radulovich of Acampo, CA.

A service will not be held due to local restrictions. However, a special tribute video to commemorate the life of Les and Carolyn will be available for viewing on YouTube and Facebook. Comments and memories can be submitted there. https://youtu.be/ GD6pTK8z8ao type: Les and Carolyn Video.
