JOHN JACOB BOGER

-

November 10, 1929 — February 1, 2021

John Jacob Boger, 91, left us peacefully on Monday, February 1, 2021 at his home surrounded by his wife and children. John was a loving husband to his wife, Jean, of 57 years and devoted father to his children, John Walter Boger and Diane Wilhelmina Hagen. He was a pillar to our family and will be greatly missed.

John was born on November 10, 1929 in Garrison, ND. He was one of eleven children born to the parents of Daniel and Wilhelmina Boger. He was raised on the family farm near Garrison, ND. They taught all 11 children to live off the land from the commodities they produced. He graduated from Garrison High School in 1947. He left North Dakota and served in the Marines Corp during the Korean War from 19511953. After being honorably discharged, he came to Lodi, CA to help his brother Elmer recover from an auto accident. John loved the Lodi Area and decided to settle, where he met his loving wife, Jean. John built his home in Acampo and was employed at General Mills for over 40 years. He received his certification in diesel mechanics in 1956 to further enhance his skills while working there. Upon his retirement, he continued his passion of gardening and canning. He was known for his canned Marchant peppers, dill pickles and making German sauerkraut with his mother’s cabbage shredder. John’s family and friends never left his home without flats of vegetables or canned goods (even his fellow workers at General Mills).

John’s devotion to his wife and children was truly amazing! He and his wife, Jean, spent many hours in their garden. They taught and assisted their children with 4-H projects, resulting in many blue ribbons from the County Fair and Lodi Grape Festival. John has passed on his passions and talents of building, mechanics, and gardening to each of them. They will continue to share their father’s passions and legacy.

He is survived by his wife, Jean; his two children, John W. and Diane (Lonnie) Hagen; his grandchildren, Hannah (Josh) Larson and John Robert; his younger sister, Ruby Boger (Garrison, ND); his sistersin-law, Barbara (Leroy) Taylor and Dorothy (Jerry) Pruden; his sister-in-law, Gertrude (Fred) Boger (Kansas City, MO), and many nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Wilhelmina Boger; his brothers and sisters, Emma (Arnold) Halquist, Fred Boger, Elmer Boger, Edwin (Josie) Boger, William (Beverly) Boger, Rueben (Dorothy) Boger, Leo Boger (Cathy), Alvin (Doris) Boger, and Marlene (Jerome) Bauer; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Walter and Amanda Loney; his brotherin-law, Jack Loney and sister-in-law, Kathryn Loney.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, February 10th from 1 - 4 p.m. at Cherokee Funeral Home, 831 Industrial Way, Lodi CA. A celebration of life will take place Thursday, February 11th at 9 a.m. at Faith Community Church, 18621 CA-99, Acampo, CA, followed by a grave side service for family and friends at 11 a.m. at Cherokee Memorial Park, Hwy 99 & E.
