Arthur Moso died peacefully at home of natural causes on March 5, 2021, at the age of 89. Arthur was born on February 8, 1932, at his aunt’s home in Oakland, California delivered by a midwife to John and Mary Moso. He was the third eldest of six children. Arthur grew up in Holt, California where he attended Holt Union Elementary School. He graduated from the 8th grade in Holt and attended Edison High School in Stockton, California, leaving school in his sophomore year to help on the family ranch. In 1960, Arthur married Mary G. Dutra at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Escalon, California. Soon after they were married, Arthur and Mary establishe­d their first home in Lodi, California, and started their family that included sons John and Patrick. In 1962, Arthur and Mary purchased a small ranch west of Lodi. There the family raised vegetables and various animals over the years while the boys were involved in 4-H and FFA. In 1969, after several years of farming with his father and independen­tly, raising tomatoes, alfalfa, sugar beets, and small grains, he decided to leave farming and went to work at Lodi Fabricatio­n as a machine operator. He worked there for 20 years. He loved and supported his sons while they were involved in Turner-Ray 4H Club and Lodi FFA. Arthur was an adult 4-H leader with his wife Mary and a vegetable club leader as well. He was active in the Stockton and Thornton Portuguese Clubs and was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Lodi, California. Arthur had great pride in his big garden that he grew every year and enjoyed selling vegetables to family and friends. Arthur had a strong work ethic and strived to pass it on to his two sons.

Arthur was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary; his older brother, John; and sister, Francis. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary; his two sons, John (Shela) and Patrick (Jamie); four grandchild­ren, Brittany (Will), Chelsea (Eric), Patrick, and Matthew; and two great-grandchild­ren, Travis and Henry; his sisters, Hilda and Mary; and his brother, Frank.

The family will hold a private burial service at Cherokee Memorial Park in Lodi, California. A celebratio­n of Arthur’s life will be announced at a later date.

The family would like to thank Hospice of San Joaquin for their loving care of Arthur and a special thank you is given to his caregivers Marlin and Tomasa.
