MARVIN MOUNCE

August 8, 1941 — March 24, 2021

-

It is with a heavy heart the family of Marvin R. Mounce announce his sudden passing on March 24, 2021. Marvin was born in Lodi on August 8, 1941 to Roy and Esther (Renschler) Mounce.

Early on, Marvin worked for Acme Saw where he found his love of lawnmowers, circle saws, and anything that needed to be repaired or sharpened. With that passion he founded A-1 Saw and Mower on the corner of Cluff Avenue and Mounce Street in Lodi in the early 70’s. He successfully operated A-1 until his retirement in 2004. He loved the industry so much he still worked part-time sharpening circle saws until his passing. He was known to be the best circle saw sharpener in the county and received many awards as an exclusive dealer of lawnmower equipment.

Outside his love of the industry, Marvin loved to scuba dive with his brothers, ride horses in parades (including the Tournament of Roses Parade), ride motorcycles across the country, cruise around in his 1967 convertible, fish, hunt, and spend his days on the Delta river. Due to his love of the Delta, he purchased a houseboat and named it Marv’s Dream. He spent every week on his boat and loved talking to people about his love of the Delta. Marvin had the gift of gab and greeted everyone with his tag line, “Howdy, Howdy!” No one was a stranger to Marvin, just his next best friend.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Leland Mounce.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra; his only child, JoAnne; his brother, Roland (Carol) Mounce; as well as many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held privately.

Marvin loved animals, so in lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to Animal Friends Connection Humane Society, 933 S. Cherokee Lane, Lodi, Ca 95240.
