Give seniors something to celebrate

- SHERRI LUIZ Lodi

Editor: I am a mother of a Lodi High senior. As everyone is aware our seniors this year have not stepped foot at Lodi High, or any other high school in our district.

Think about that for just a minute — you have gone to school for 12-13 years and the pinnacle of your education is senior year. No Friday night football, no Tuesday/Thursday basketball, no rallies, no hanging out at the senior spot, no prom, no homecoming. NOTHING.

While our kids are resilient, they are still just kids who are now only eight weeks from finishing school. They don’t know if there is anything being planned for graduation. Many may not even be aware there has been a small group of moms who have come together to plan this year’s Senior Sober Grad Night.

We have sent many letters out to our community and have received donations and gift certificates, which are so much appreciated. We are still very far from giving these kids an incredible last night. Most likely the only night they will get the opportunity to spend with friends and fellow classmates. Last year’s class was so lucky to have had half a year to raise money. All of that money has been put into the 2020 senior class for future use, whether that be a reunion or some sort of contribution to Lodi High to commemorate their class.

What I am asking for is that our community is aware that we are planning for one last night. One night out of their senior year to celebrate. And that if they are able and willing to donate anything be it food, drinks, prizes, gift certificates, cash donation, I know that not only our seniors will be grateful but us moms who have been working hard for the last six months planning for this one and only last night our seniors will remember.
