TIGERS SCORE BIG WIN ON DIAMOND

- David Witte NEWS-SENTINEL SPORTS EDITOR

The Tokay High baseball team notched a big win in its belt on Tuesday with a 3-2 victory over St. Mary’s at Zupo Field.

Logan Drummond pitched 5 2/3 innings for the win, striking out five while allowing two runs on five hits before Cade Campbell moved over from shortstop to finish the last inning and a third. Campbell walked two and struck out two, and allowed no hits.

Tokay put all three of its runs on the board in the bottom of the third inning, starting with a Matt Casillas leadoff double. Campbell singled, and then Casillas scored on an error on a pickoff attempt.

Then Joseph Barnhardt homered to give the Tigers a 3-0 lead.

That score held until the sixth inning, when St. Mary’s scored both its runs — an RBI single from Ryan Werner, and a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch from Gavin Merin. That’s when Campbell came in to finish on the mound.

Tokay tallied six hits in the win — Barnhardt’s home run, Casillas’ double and a single, and singles from Campbell, Cory Sugg and Campbell Kurkjian.
