Galt city manager to host Zoom meetings with local residents
In an effort to improve communication and relations with residents, Galt City Manager Lorenzo Hines will begin meeting individually to hear their thoughts and concerns.
This week, the city manager announced he is opening his office to meet one-on-one with residents on the first Thursday of each month. The first of his new “First Thursdays” sessions will be May 6 from 5-7 p.m.
“This is continuing my sort of ongoing effort to engage the community,” Hines said. “I know Galt is a small comm
unity and its residents are very active and interested in what’s going on in the city. So I just had the need to connect with them and listen to what was on their minds.”
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, meetings for the time being will be conducted via Zoom. Each resident who makes an appointment will have 20 minutes to speak with Hines to discuss their concerns, ask questions and gather feedback directly from the city manager.
Hines said this is not something he has done in previous positions, so the experience will be just as new to him as it is to Galtonians.
While assistant city manager in Pacifica, he said he was always in touch with residents in the small coastal town through contacts he had made, but never in oneone-one meetings.
As of Wednesday, two residents had made appointments to meet with him, he said. If more than six people sign up for ap
pointments, Hines said staff would work out a schedule. However, because “First Thursdays” are in the early stages, he said staff will have to wait and see what to do when more than six people make appointments for one day.
To make an appointment for “First Thursdays,” call the City of Galt offices at 209-366-7130. A Zoom link will be provided prior to the meeting date.
