Galt man convicted of child porn charges
SACRAMENTO — A Galt man who was trading child pornography while stationed in Qatar as a member of the National Guard plead guilty in federal court this week.
According to the U.S. District Attorney’s Office, 23-year-old Jaziz Jesahias Cea used the Internet and social media platforms to receive and transport child pornography.
On May 13, 2018, Cea uploaded images of prepubescent girls being abused by adult males to his YouTube channel. He also used a Skype account to receive videos depicting prepubescent minor females being sexually exploited, to share links to such material, and to communicate with others about his interest in sexually exploiting children, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.
Cea was a member of the California National Guard between September 2017 and July 2018, serving on active duty with the United States Army in Qatar when the crimes were committed.
He was discharged from the California National Guard on July 23, 2020, under other than honorable conditions, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.
This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Sacramento County Sheriff ’s Office, the Sacramento Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, and the Galt Police Department.
The two counts to which Cea pleaded guilty carry a mandatory minimum fiveyear prison sentence, a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, and a fine of up to $250,000 for each count.
The actual sentence, however, will be determined at the discretion of the court after consideration of any applicable statutory sentencing factors and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.
Cea is scheduled to be sentenced on July 22.
