- NEWS-SENTINEL STAFF

San Joaquin Sheriff’s deputies conducted four separate vehicle stops within a week that led to the recovery of drugs and guns, the department reported on Friday. On Thursday, May 6, two patrol units observed a pair of men walking quickly toward a business in the French Camp area with their heads and faces covered. After seeing a marked patrol unit, they reportedly went back to their car and attempted to drive away. A traffic stop was initiated and a search of the vehicle discovered two loaded firearms, one of which was reported stolen and the other unregistered, police said.

On Friday, May 7, deputies stopped a vehicle after they observed it running a red light. The driver was found to be on probation for burglary, and when conducting a search of the vehicle officers found multiple burglary tools and a stolen catalytic converter.

Last Tuesday, deputies encountered a vehicle with no front license plate and an expired registration. Multiple items of contraband were observed in plain view inside the vehicle. A subsequent search of the vehicle located nearly a pound and a half of marijuana, 10 grams of suspected cocaine, four grams of suspected methamphetamine, several pills of various types, multiple empty small plastic baggies, a scale, a 30round .40 caliber handgun magazine, and nearly $1,000 in cash.

On Thursday, deputies stopped a car for not having a front license plate. A records check revealed a felony warrant for the driver’s arrest. A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the recovery of a loaded firearm and several grams of suspected methamphetamine.
