Tokay High student receives Kristin Smart Scholarshi­p

LODI — Tokay High School student Taylor Willis was named a recipient of the 2022-23 Kristin Smart Scholarshi­p last week.

With a 3.3 grade-point average, Willis’ career goal is to be a forensic scientist. She is a 4-year All League volleyball player and team captain, was the school’s ASB president, a Girls State representa­tive and has received numerous community service awards.

Each year, four female students from San Joaquin and San Luis Obispo counties are selected to receive monetary awards to financiall­y assist their quest for a college education.

To qualify for considerat­ion, recipients ideally possess an interest in internatio­nal relations or architectu­re, or are pursuing a degree in law enforcemen­t or forensic science.

Post office to hold Stamp Out Hunger

LODI — The U.S. Post Office in Lodi is taking part in the 30th annual “Stamp Out Hunger” food drive on Saturday, May 14.

The post office is asking that residents leave non-perishable food donations in bags by their mailboxes for pickup on Saturday. All donations will be given to the Salvation Army food pantry for distributi­on to families facing food insecurity.

Last year, the Salvation Army of Lodi provided more than 53,000 hot meals through the shelter and distribute­d more than 12,000 bags of groceries to families facing food insecurity.

The post office was unable to hold its food drive in 2020 and 2021 due to COVID-19 concerns, but is pleased to host the event again this year. In past years, the Lodi post office collected more than 10,000 pounds in a single day.

Changing Faces to perform ‘Wizard of Oz’

LODI — Changing Faces Theater Company presents Frank L. Baum’s “The Wizard of Oz,” adapted by Jon Jory, beginning May 27 at St. Jorge Winery, 22769 N. Bender Road, Acampo. It is the first of four public performanc­es. For ticket informatio­n, email mbartram.cftc@comcast.net.

Free performanc­es will be offered on June 6 at the Lodi Public Library, 201 W. Locust St., Lodi; June 12 at the Galt Community Park, 1000 Walnut Ave., Galt.

A fourth performanc­e will be presented at Michael David Winery, 4850 Highway 12, Lodi, on Jun 22 during the winery’s Family Night. Tickerts are $15 for the public and $10 for winery members and can be purchased on the events page at www.michaeldav­id winery.com. Children will be admitted for free.

Changing Faces to hold auditions

LODI — Changing Faces Theater Company is holding auditions for “A Midsummer’s Night Dream” at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 19 at 720 W. Lodi Ave., Lodi. Roles are open for both teens and adults. For more informatio­n, visit www.changingfa­cestheater.org/auditions2.html.

The theater is also accepting campers for its Summer Drama Club, which begins June 7. Sessions are every Tuesday for eight weeks. Registrati­on is $125 for campers 8 to 11 years old in the 10 to 11 a.m. session, and $150 for campers 12 to 25 in the 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. class.
